Singer, Songwriter and producers, married couple John & Gina Carey have been performing and recording professionally, as independent artist for many years. Their individual talents have taken them all over the world. John Carey has also played with Theo Coakley for the last 15years under the name of the Smooth Brothers.

News: IT’S A NEW BEGINNING FOR GINA CAREY…THE SONGBIRD.

31st January 2013 marks the next chapter in Gina Carey’s seventeen year career, when Gina Carey…The Songbird is released. Gina Carey…The Songbird is the ninth album of Gina’s career, and her sixth soul album. This is the start of a new chapter in the career of Gina Carey…The Songbird. She’s back, stronger, wiser and even more soulful than ever. Indeed, Gina Carey…The Songbird is the best album of Gina’s career. Earlier this week, I spoke to Gina and she told me about Gina Carey…The Songbird and her plans for 2013.

Last year, 2012, was the busiest year of Gina Carey’s career. While most albums struggle to release even one album each year, Gina was the hardest working women in soul music. She released a trio of albums between February and September 2012.

2012 started for Gina with the release of her sixth album Love Letters, which was released on Valentine’s Day 2012. This found Gina fusing her own unique mix of soul, jazz, Nu-Soul, gospel and funk. Love Letters was the followup to Gina’s 2011 album Melodic. Not only was Melodic critically acclaimed, but became Gina’s most successful album, reaching number one album in the UK in August 2011. Then just three months after the release of Love Letters, came the sequel, Love Letters 2.

Love Letters 2 was the perfect starting point for anyone new to Gina Carey’s music. It was a combination of old and new songs. There were four songs from Gina’s two previous albums, Melodic and Love Letters. Add to these eight tracks, three new songs. You, Being In Love and You Are Right were from Gina’s next album Live, Love and Laugh Volume 1.

Live, Love and Laugh Volume 1 was released in September 2012. This was a really difficult period for Gina. Her father Eugene Harrison had died earlier in 2012. For Gina, Live, Love and Laugh Volume 1 was Gina’s way of coping with the loss of her father. In many ways, Live, Love and Laugh Volume 1 became Gina’s way of paying tribute to a man who’d inspired, encouraged and believed in Gina. Following the loss of Gina’s father, she decided to take stock of her career so far.

Having taken stock of her sixteen year career, Gina decided that 2013 was a new beginning for her. With that in mind, Gina decided that for the next step in her career, she decided for the first time in her career, to enlist the help of a manager. So, a new manager was brought in to help guide Gina’s new beginning, including her new album Gina Carey…The Songbird.

With thirteen new songs written, Gina and her management team started working on an album title. Various titles were considered, then her manager came up with Gina Carey…The Songbird. Gina decided this was perfect. With an album title, next came the album cover. For that, Gina enlisted the help of her sister, Melanie Harrison, photographer and New York model. It’s Melanie’s photographs that feature on in the publicity shots and album cover. It seems the Carey sisters are a multitalented family. Together, they’re a potent partnership, who’ll play an important part in this new beginning for Gina Carey’s career. This starts with Gina Carey…The Songbird. However, I was interested to hear about Gina’s life and career so far. So, I asked her about her past and musical inspirations.

Gina first became interested in music when she was just aged eight. Inspired by the music of singers like Deneice Williams, Billie Holliday. Gladys Knight and Jackie Wilson. This was the music she heard at home. It inspired her to start singing. Soon, she took a few lessons and started playing piano. Little did she realize that this would be how she’d earn a living.

By 1996, Gina got her professional breakthrough. She was asked to sing backing vocals for God’s Original Gangsters. This lead to Gina signing to Grapetree Records, who would release Gina’s debut album In His Time, the first of three gospel albums Gina released. In His Time sold over ten thousand copies throughout the United States. This lead to Gina being nominated for two awards by the Black Music Academy Association of America. These two categories were the Best Female Gospel Performer and Gospel’s Rising Star. However, then after the success of In His Time, Gina came crashing back to earth. Grapetree Records folded, leaving Gina without a label.

Seven years after the release of In His Time, Gina released her sophomore album Changes. This was released on her own independent label Gico Music, which would release all her future albums. Then in 2006, Gina released her third gospel album, Tell Um. That year, Gina received a prestigious award for her music. This was the Las Vegas Black Music Awards’ for Best Gospel Performer, which she received at the Cashman Theater. Given this would be Gina’s final gospel album, this was the perfect way to close the first chapter in Gina’s career. Her next album would be quite different, but extremely soulful.

Two years after the release of Gina’s final gospel album Tell Um, she released her fourth album and first soul album My Journey. Much had happened to Gina between the release of Tell Um in 2006 and My Journey in 2008. In 2007, Gina auditioned for America’s Got Talent on NBC TV and had performed with Lee Bailey at the inaugural EURWEB Awards. Gina also auditioned for another television show “Showtime At The Apollo.” It was filmed at the legendary Harlem theatre, where so many great singers had appeared. This seemed to inspire Gina. The judges were so impressed with Gina’s performance, that she was twice asked to be a guest the show. It definitely seemed that Gina Carey’s star was rising during 2007. This continued into 2008 when BET J played the video for her True Love single on their Cup show. When Gina would release her next album it would demonstrate her talent as a singer, songwriter and arranger.

Melodic was Gina’s second soul album and fifth album overall. On Melodic, Gina wrote and arranged the songs, while her husband John, played on, and produced Melodic. This was Gina’s most successful album, reaching number one in the UK Soul Charts in August 2011. Then, in December 2011, Gina received a huge accolade, when Melodic was named one of the best soul albums of 2011. Gina was in illustrious company, joining names like Jill Scott, Maysa Leak and Eric Benet. Then in 2012, would see Gina crowned the hardest working artist in soul music.

During 2012 released her trio of albums, Love Letters, Love Letters 2 and Live, Love and Laugh Volume 1. This she managed to do between February and September 2012. Having released three albums during 2012, Gina decided to start work on her ninth album. So, Gina returned to the studio. She started work on what would become he ninth album Gina Carey…The Songbird.

When I asked Gina to tell me about Gina Carey…The Songbird, she said partly, the music has been influenced by the music she heard growing up. It’s also slight more experimental. Still, Gina Carey…The Songbird sees Gina fusing her usual unique mix of soul, jazz, Nu-Soul and funk. There’s also a hint of folk, country, blues, Latin and African music. Gina describes the music as “super smooth, soulful and funky” but also “inspirational, playful, sassy, sultry, mystical and mysterious.” To that, I’d add hook-laden. Ballads and dance-floor floor friendly songs sit comfortably side by side on Gina Carey…The Songbird, which will be released on 31st December 2013.

To coincide with the release of Gina Carey…The Songbird on 31st January 2013, is Hey Mr, a hook-laden fusion of musical genres and influences. After that, the soulful, jazzy, dance track My Sunshine will be released as the sophomore single. Then the sumptuously sultry and sensuous Step Into My Love will become the third single. For the fourth and final single, is another uptempo, funky, dance track My Hero. The four singles are just a tantalizing taste of the thirteen tracks on Gina Carey…The Songbird. These thirteen tracks mark a new chapter in the career of Gina Carey…The Songbird.

Gina has dedicated Gina Carey…The Songbird to her late father, Mr. Eugene Harrison, the man who inspired, encouraged and always believed in Gina. Having heard Gina Carey…The Songbird, I can honestly say that this is a very fitting tribute to Gina’s father. I’m sure Mr. Harrison would be proud of the music on Gina Carey…The Songbird. This is just the first step in a new beginning for Gina Carey…The Songbird. During 2013, Gina hopes to tour the UK and in the future, hopes to collaborates with other songwriters and producer. So, Gina Carey…The Songbird is just the first step in the next chapter in her career. With new management helping guide her career, then Gina Carey…The Songbird marks what will be the start of a new, exciting and successful chapter in the career of Gina Carey…The Songbird.

Christian Rap Artist, songwriter, dancer & producer Corey Brown is the latest addition to Gico Music. Corey was born and raised as a California Native and grew up with a natural attraction to music. His inspiration for music was developed by being brought up in a household filled with song and dance.

His mother singer , songwriter, producer & recording artist Gina Carey gave him his first set of studio production equipment around the age of 13 now several years later, Corey has become a pretty accomplished songwriter and producer himself.

Corey's love for Christian Rap music grew stronger as the years progressed. In his earlier teenage years, Corey joined many school based hip hop dance groups where he became quite popular amongst his peers because of his unique crump style dancing. From there , he joined various school talent show competitions , ministered a church youth events and even went as far as auditioning for Showtime at The Apollo.

Growing up without a father presented many challenges for Corey during his teen years. As a result, Corey began to feel direct his pain over to helping troubled youth. More and more, he felt compelled to reach out to other young men who were experiencing similar challenges in there life with the message of love, hope ,salvation & acceptance through Christ Jesus.

Corey's simplistic style of rap is what stands out about him the most. He has a way of presenting the message of hope in way that even those who are of a more mature age can follow. He has been compared to LL Cool J by many listeners with a gospel message.

After two successful Top 30 UK Soul Chart CD releases , Soul Jazz recording artist Gina Carey prepares for her 3rd CD “ Live Love & Laugh” all in the same year.

Over the years , many recording artist have been known to drop no less than one CD per calendar year. However, multitalented singer, songwriter and producer Gina Carey is quite the exception to that rule. If releasing two CD’s in one consecutive year wasn’t enough, Gina decides to drop yet another soulful masterpiece on Tuesday, September 4, 2012 ending with three CD’s in one year.

On February 14, 2012“Valentines Day” , Gina graced her fans with “ Love Letters” a beautiful collection of well written and performed love songs. On the week of March 17th, “Love Letters” hit the Top 30 UK Soul Charts yet again rising to #16 not long after achieving the #1 spot of the UK Soul Charts last year in 2011 with her CD “ Melodic”.

Her second 2012 CD, “ Love Letters 2” was released On May 31st . “ Love Letters 2” combined seven of Gina’s all time favorite previously released songs and included three new teaser tunes , “You, You Are Right & Being In Love”. These three teasers were sneak previews to her upcoming CD “ Live Love & Laugh”.

Gina plans to include12 songs on her three parts CD “ Live Love & Laugh” with 4 tunes on each separate release. Volume One (Live) on September 4th , Volume Two ( Love) January 1, 2013 & Volume Three ( Laugh) on May 1, 2013. The smooth soulful jazzy “ Live Love & Laugh is a combination of dance to mid range inspirational & love tunes. The foot stomping & Inspiring“ Live Love & Laugh” & “My All” are the first singles to be released off of this dynamic album following the Jazzy“ Jam Sessions” . This CD is perfectly polished off by the angelic mid temp love ballad “ Angel”. For any independent artist, trying to think of innovative ways of releasing music, isn’t easy. After all, major record companies have whole departments of strategists, whose job is to do just that. So, releasing music on a limited budget must be much harder. However, one artist whose pioneering a new way of releasing an album is Gina Carey. For here eighth album, Live, Love and Laugh, Gina’s decided to release the album in three volumes. This is perfectly suited to the three suites or themes of music that run through the twelve songs on Live, Love and Laugh . With these three very different themes running through the album, Gina decided that an innovative and imaginative way of releasing her new album was in three volumes. On September 4th, Gina will release Volume 1, entitled Live will be released on 4th September, with Volume 2 Love released on January 1st 2012 and Volume 3 Laugh being released on 1st May 2013.

Live, Love and Laugh Volume 1 (Live) is Gina’s third album of 2012 and fifth soul album. Gina Carey’s soulful journey started with My Journey, before releasing was Melodic 2011. Before, becoming a soul singer, Gina had released three gospel albums, In His Time, Changes and Tell Um. Then on St. Valentines’ Day 2012, Gina released the first of three albums she’d release in 2012. Love Letters, was Gina’s fusion of Nu-Soul, smooth soul, R&B and jazz. It was released on the same day as husband John’s Smooth, Soulful and Funky. Then just three months later, released her second album of 2012 Love Letters 2. Again, Gina was innovative, with Love Letters 2 featuring four tracks from Melodic and Love Letters, plus three tracks from Live, Love and Laugh. Now just three months later, I’ve been given a preview of Live, Love and Laugh Volume 1 (Live), which I’ll now tell you about.

The title-track Live, Love and Laugh opens Live, Love and Laugh Volume One. Straight away, swathes of grand strings build the drama up before Live, Love and Laugh reveals its soulful delights. A flourish of strings signal the arrival of Gina’s cascading vocal. Gina’s vocal is heartfelt, full of passion and positivity, while she adds multi-tracked backing vocals. Melodic keyboards, crispy drums, guitar and percussion combine, as this paean to positivity unfolds. With a mixture of emotion, and sincerity, Gina delivers her vocal. She does so as if she means every word, as the arrangement unfolds in waves, with keyboards and guitars key to the single’s sound. When combined with an uptempo, catchy arrangement, the result is an irresistible and hook-laden single,

My All opens with gentle, melodic keyboards, a hint of a shaker and a flourish of harp. They give no clue to where the track’s heading. Then an uptempo track unfolds. Gina’s impassioned vocal soars, while multi-tracked backing vocalists accompany her. Crispy drums provide the track’s heartbeat, while dramatic keyboards and rumbling bass punctuate the arrangement. As Gina’s voice almost trembles with emotion and pride, sweet backing vocals accompany her. Midway through the track, blazing horns add to the drama and emotion of the track. The longer the track progresses, the better Gina’s vocal gets. She mixes power, passion and pride, a formidable combination in life.

Gina drops the tempo on Angel, delivering a beautiful and heartfelt vocal. To me this is the best track on the album. It’s a gorgeous, slow, love song, one that’s perfectly suited to Gina’s voice and which she brings to life. Her delivery is stunning, with her phrasing getting across the beautiful lyrics. Like the two previous tracks, there’s a real Nu-Soul sound, bur Gina’s voice perfect for this style of music. As Gina delivers a heartfelt, emotional vocal, drums and bass provide the song’s slow, sensuous heartbeat. Keyboards, acoustic guitar and backing vocals accompany Gina, before the lushest of strings provide the track’s coupe de grace. Of the four tracks on Live, Love and Laugh Volume 1, this is the best, and very definitely the most beautiful.

Closing Live, Love and Laugh Volume 1 is Jam Session. A pounding bass, keyboards, drums and wah-wah guitar combine with Gina’s vocal. Her vocal is delivered in a dramatic, sassy style, with backing vocals accompanying here. Here, Gina and husband John, decide to unleash a tougher, funkier sound. Similarly, Gina’s vocal has a tougher, sassier sound. Having said that, the track is still soulful. Later, John unleashes a series of sizzling guitar solos, wah-wah-ing his way across the arrangement, almost making his guitar talk. Meanwhile Gina and backing vocalists soulfully soar above the arrangement, as Gina Carey reveals another side to her music, one that I can’t wait to hear more of.

Having constantly played the four tracks on Gina Carey’s forthcoming album Live, Love and Laugh Volume 1 (Live), I can honestly say that Gina’s sounding better than ever. Her vocals are variously a mixture of power, passion, positivity and emotion. The four songs are infectiously catchy and deeply soulful. While Live, Love and Laugh is the lead single, and a hook-laden single at that, Angel a gorgeous, heartfelt love song is the real standout track. Surely, that’ll be released as a single. I know if I was choosing the next single, that’s the one I’d choose. Truly, each of the songs on Live, Love and Laugh Volume 1 (Live) show Gina Carey to be a multi-talented lady, who wrote, arranged and produced the album. She has dedicated Live, Love and Laugh Volume 1 (Live) to her father Eugene Harrison, who sadly died earlier this year. I’m sure that Mr. Harrison would be truly proud of his hugely talented daughter Gina Carey, as she continues to Live, Love and Laugh and make so many happy with her beautiful voice.

Kal David, Palm Springs. Blues solo artist and sideman for Johnny Rivers, Etta James, John Mayall and more. A native of Chicago, David is influenced by Texas blues guitarists, but can play any regional variety. He's also blessed with a voice as soulful as Robert Cray. David regularly plays Thursday nights at Club Trinidad in Palm Springs. Hear him do his original "The Visit."

Alain Johannes. Leader of Eleven, which played the first rock concert at the Empire Polo Club in Indio, and the most skilled guitarist in Them Crooked Vultures, featuring Josh Homme, Dave Grohl and John Paul Jones. His virtuosity is especially apparent on box guitar. Johannes' mother lives in Palm Springs and he often records at Rancho de la Luna in Joshua Tree. Here he is playing "Endless Eyes."

Brian Nova, Palm Desert. A Joe Pass protege who gave Steve Miller guitar lessons. He's a master straightahead jazz guitarist with a modern affinity for the standards. During the season, Nova regularly plays during the season at Cafe des Beaux Arts in Palm Desert. Here he is doing "Jingles."

Clive Wright, Joshua Tree. Lead guitarist for the English '90s pop band, the Cock Robins, Wright often sits in at the Ted Quinn open mic nights at Pappy & Harriet's and the Joshua Tree Saloon. But his preference now is ambient music. He can play guitar like an electronic keyboard or shred with the best of them. On "Dune Matrix," he combines the best of both genres.

GINA CAREY-LOVE LETTERS TWO.

Just three months after releasing her sixth solo album Love Letters, Gina Carey returns with another album Love Letters Two. This is a combination of old and new songs. There are four songs apiece from Gina’s two previous albums, 2011s Melodic and 2012s Love Letters. The three new songs, You, Being In Love and You Are Right are from Gina’s forthcoming album Live, Love and Laugh, due out in September 2012. These three songs should whet your appetite nicely, with Gina silky, sultry voice better than ever. If this is the standard Gina sets on Live, Love and Laugh, then this will very definitely be an album to look out for. Not only that, but Love Letters 2 is the perfect introduction to Gina Carey’s music. It gives newcomers to her music the opportunity to hear songs from her two previous album. I’m sure that after hearing Love Letters Two, they’ll be seeking out Gina’s previous albums. Unlike her previous albums, Gina has decided that Love Letters 2 will be a digital only release, and will be released on 21st May 2012. So for those of you who can’t wait until the release date of Love Letters Two, I’ll tell you about the music on the album.

Opening Love Letters Two is one of the trio of new songs Being In Love. Slow strings briefly sweep in, instantly grabbing your attention. Then suddenly, it’s all change. Now the tracks heads for familiar territory, Nu-Soul. This is something Gina does so well. Straight away, her vocal is emotive and heartfelt. Gina’s accompanied by acoustic guitar, rhythm section and stabs of organ, which prove really effective. Her vocal is multi-tracked, so Gina adds backing vocals. Meanwhile, husband John, plays bass and guitar, before later, adding backing vocals. To quote Sly Stone, Love Letters Two is a “family affair.” Together, the Carey’s combine to create a stunning new track, with Gina’s vocal irresistible, heartfelt and beautiful.

Unbelievable is the first of four tracks from Gina’s 2011 album Melodic. Gina scats emotively as the track opens, before an understated, but effective arrangement reveals its beauty and charms. A bass, acoustic guitar and an atmospheric organ combine. They’re played with a subtlety that allows Gina’s vocal to take centre-stage and shine. Her vocal is impassioned and sincere, as if the lyrics are personal. Her vocal is multi-tracked, so she contributes backing vocals. Meanwhile, John continues sprinkle subtle wah-wah guitar while lush strings reflect the emotion and beauty in Gina’s vocal.

You Are Right is the second new song, from Gina’s forthcoming album Live, Love and Laugh. It’s a mid-tempo track, with a quite different, more moderne sounding arrangement. Having said that, it’s really effective, with Gina surpasses herself, delivering a vocal full of hurt and heartache. Her voice quivers with emotion, as it soars while she delivers the lyrics, against a shuffling Nu-Jazz arrangement. Mostly, it’s just the rhythm section, guitar, percussion and keyboards that accompany a reflective Gina. Interestingly, sometimes, her voice is swathed in echo, which seems to add to the emotion and sadness of the track. Of the three new tracks on Love Letters Two, this must be the most emotive and powerful of the trio, with an older, wiser Gina reflecting on the past.

Swathes of lush, graceful strings and piano open Lush Share My Life another track from Gina’s 2011 album Melodic. Then, guitars and the rhythm section accompany Gina’s heartfelt vocal. Her voice is impassioned, quivering emotively, and is tinged with an intensity. Meanwhile, backing vocals accompany Gina, as strings glide gracefully, while guitars drift in and out. Key to the track is the piano, which like the strings, play important roles, adding the effectiveness and emotion of the song. What makes this such an outstanding track is the intensity and desire in Gina’s vocal.

You is the third and final new track from Gina’s forthcoming album Live, Love and Laugh. The track is a classy slice of Nu-Soul which to me, will make a great single. The tempo is quicker, with Gina singing lead vocal and singing backing vocals. During the track, Gina takes a diversion into Nu-Jazz, scatting her way through part of the song. Later she unleashes her vocal, allowing it soar elegantly and gracefully. When she does this, it’s emotive and impassioned, especially when delivered against the understated arrangement. Here, stabs of piano, lush strings, guitar and crisp drums combine, but never once, overpower Gina’s vocal. Instead, they provide the perfect backdrop for Gina, who surpasses herself. Not only does she deliver one of her best vocals on Love Letters Two, but this is the best song of Gina’s three new ones.

Not only is Loving You is another track from Melodic, Gina’s fourth album, it demonstrates just how talented a vocalist and songwriter Gina Carey is. Like the other tracks on Love Letters Two, Gina wrote the song. It’s a beautiful love song, with Gina’s vocal full of devotion and desire. Guitars reverberate, while subtle drums and keyboards accompany Gina. Later, John lays down a crystalline, emotive guitar solo, that’s perfect for the track. So are Gina’s multi-tracked backing vocals, which add to the soulfulness and intrinsic beauty of the track. After you’ve heard this compelling and captivating track, and others from Melodic, I’m sure you’ll want to hear much more of the album.

Although So Natural is the title of this track, it could also describe Gina’s singing style. Not for Gina the histrionics you hear on some modern soul albums, just music sung with emotion and passion, delivered in a voice that’s very beautiful. This is the case here, with her vocal delivered with a combination of subtlety, emotion and passion. Like her vocal, the arrangement has a similar understated quality, just keyboards, crispy drumbeats, lush strings and some subtle guitar playing from John. Similar to other tracks, Gina’s vocals are multi-tracked so she also contributes backing vocals. Towards the end of the track, her voice soars high, but as always, Gina controls her voice perfectly. This paean to love, is sung with feeling, sincerity and emotion by Gina and was one of the highlights of Love Letters, Gina’s previous album.

Don’t You Give Up is the fourth and final track from Melodic, revealing the spiritual side to Gina’s music. This is no surprise, given Gina’s first three albums were gospel albums. While the arrangement is Nu-Soul, the track is gospel tinged, with Gina’s vocal sincere and thankful. Meanwhile, the arrangement sees punchy drums, handclaps, guitars and keyboards combine. The drums are prominent, while guitars, and keyboards play lesser roles. Later, Gina unleashes her secret weapon, husband John. He unleashes a dramatic guitar solo, that not only grabs your attention, but demonstrates just why he’s heard in such high regard in jazz circles. Then when Gina’s vocal reenters, her vocal is heartfelt and sincere, as she fuses Nu-Soul with R&B and gospel seamlessly and effortlessly.

When For Love opens, a brief burst of strings can be heard, before giving way to slow, crisp beats and keyboards. They provide the perfect backdrop for Gina’s louder, strong and hugely impassioned vocal. Backing vocalists accompany Gina, as she sings about what “she’d do for love.” The track has a real 21st century Nu Soul sound, with its drums and keyboards combining slowly with Gina’s sensuous, sultry vocal. Like other tracks on Love Letters, Gina’s previous album, this track demonstrates she can write and delivers some beautiful love songs, which she brings to life with her impassioned and sensuous delivery.

Beautiful Music was an apt title for this track from Love Letters, given its slow tempo, beautiful, subtle arrangement and Gina reflective and thankful. Her delivery is heartfelt, the lyrics about love and her relationship with husband John. Lyrics like “I’m the strings on your guitar” and “we make beautiful music together” are just two of the many lovely lyrics in this song. The arrangement features flourishes of keyboards, a slow bass and crisp drums, while guitar, finger-clicks and backing vocalists add to what is one of Love Letters’ most romantic, heartfelt and beautiful tracks.

I Run is a mid-tempo track with a real gospel influence. Gina’s first three albums were gospel albums and this is a lovely combination of gospel and soul music. The track opens with keyboards, standup bass, guitars and percussion before a vocal from Gina that’s assured and sincere enters. During the track, Gina sings “I run to the Lord,” and “surrender to God” demonstrating her faith. With backing vocalists accompanying her, the song is delivered in a call and response style, with the backing vocalists answering Gina. Throughout mesmerizing arrangement’s sound. Again, though, it’s Gina’s beautiful vocal that takes centre-stage as she delivers her message with an assuredness and sincerity.

Love Letters Two, Gina Garey’s sixth album is a compelling and captivating collection of songs, old and new. The music is variously beautiful, heartfelt and impassioned. Gina’s decision to release an album containing four songs from Melodic and Love Letters, her two previous albums and three from her forthcoming album Live, Love and Laugh should result in many new fans discovering her music. It allows people to discover her back-catalogue, while new fans will want to hear a preview of what Live, Love and Laugh will sound like. If the rest of Live, Love and Laugh is as good as the three songs on Love Letters Two, then it’ll prove to be the best album of her career. Having said that, Melodic and Love Letters are both outstanding albums, where Gina delivers some beautiful music, music which shows that Gina Carey has a big future ahead of her. Not only is she a hugely talented vocalist, but a talented songwriter, musician and producer. Surely very soon, major labels will start to take an interest in Gina Carey’s career. For anyone yet to discover Gina Carey’s music, then Love Letters Two is the perfect starting point. Standout Tracks: Being In Love, You, So Natural and Beautiful Music.

On Wednesday April 11, 2012, Gico Music recording artist Gina Carey won the Rising Stars of the Desert 2012 Music Video Competition and was awarded the Marker Broadcasting 2012 Jazz Music artist Award. This prestigious award was presented to Gina Carey at the Marker Broadcasting’s Inaugural in the Fantasy Springs Casino Lit Lounge in Indio California. This was the first “Rising Stars of the Desert Music Video competition”. This grand event was spearheaded by Marker Broadcastings New Media Director, Meg Penfield Marker.

Gina Carey was chosen as one of the 8 finalist chosen out of 90 original music video submissions. There were 4 categories in which artist would be selected, Jazz, Pop, Rock & Country. The celebrity guest Judge Panel included, Tom Baldrica, former VP Sony Music Nashville & president of Average Joe’s Entertainment, Bonnie Marquez, of GOLDENVOICE marketing in Los Angeles, CA & Marker Broadcasting talent & management. Two finalists were selected from each category to perform at the Marker Broadcastings Listeners appreciation Party. Each finalist performed 2 songs live on stage as the packed crowd cheered them on. At the end of the night, Gina Carey was one of the 3 artists to be awarded one of the elegant star studded crystal trophies. In addition, winners of each category will be announced on air April 12, 2012 and played on the radio in the categories that represent their genres. Gina will be played on KJJZ 102.3.

With Gina Carey hitting the #1 spot on the UK Soul Charts and her husband guitarist John Carey closely following, charting at #8 , This talented married couple have been invited by the NLADA to be one of the artist to open for Billboards R & B Pop Chart toppers, 70’s funk band Rose Royce. Rose Royce is known for their “Car Wash’ movie soundtrack with hit singles, “Car Wash”, “I Wanna Get Next To You” and “I’m Going Down”. This event will take place on October 2, 2011 and be held at the beautiful Riverside, CA. Rancho Jurupa Park (Pecan and Acorn Shelters). 12 pm – 6:00 pm. This charitable event will be hosted by Mr. Gary Windom, Law Offices of the Public Defender, Riverside County and Irene Morales, Inland Counties Legal Services.

I started singing around 8 years and singing has been my passion every since. My musical influences were Gladys Knight, Denise Williams, Minnie Riperton, Billy Holiday, and Stevie Wonder. I grew up listening to real music. Singers in those days made you feel really something. I love the raw vocals and real singing from the soul. That's the type of music I enjoy writing and performing."

Throughout Gina's musical career, she has written and recorded 3 independently released gospel CD's (In His Time, Changes & Tell Um) and 2 soulful albums, "My Journey" and her latest "Melodic". Her first CD "In His Time" sold over 10,000 copies nationwide and soared to the top of the European" charts the summer of its release. The essence of Jazz is what guitarist John Carey offers on ‘New Beginnings’

A seasoned guitarist John Carey is once again stepping out with another album, “New Beginnings,” on his own label GICO Music.

“I’ve been on this road for 25-30 years opening for so many people…a great journey,” John said about his career as a guitarist.

On the “New Beginnings” you will hear that journey in the form of a wide range of styles layered with that Jazz essence. John offers his skills as a Latin guitarist on one of my favorites on the album “The Rain in Spain” and as an R&B guitarist on another favorite “Step.” Carey even gives a bit of Rock guitar playing to make his guitar sing on yet another favorite cut “A Song for Gina.”

“I decided to throw in all my experiences,” John said when asked about the diversity in the sounds of his guitar on this CD. “I’ve recorded several albums that were projects for (other) companies – just work – this particular one…I am the most proud of.”

Proud he should be this album offers the best in Jazz guitar playing, not to mention the beautiful vocal support of his label-mate Gina.

The smooth soulful sounds of Gina Carey has a ‘Melodic’ affect on new album

*I’ve reviewed previous works of singer/songwriter Gina Carey, but this newest album “Melodic” (GICO Music) is more, if possible, impressive than the last. This lady can sing it all: Gospel, R&B, Jazz and Soul. On the new project Gina won’t disappoint any genre lover as it shows her vocal power reminiscent of the Gospel genre; her erythematic style shows her R&B influence; her scatting to show the Jazz flavor, and you will blown away with her soulful abilities.“It’s a God given ability,” said the Soul singer/songwriter about wide range of vocal and songwriting abilities. “I started performing at age 8 or 9 at school. The kids started gathering around me. The teacher took me to the principle who took me to board meetings (as entertainment).”

From there Gina said she started to travel throughout the Unified School District performing at events. In 1996 Carey decided to go professional and do some background singing. Eventually Gina recorded and released four albums – three Contemporary Gospel projects and one main-stream Neo-Soul album. Her latest CD, “Melodic,” is an Urban Soul inspirited album.

“It took two months. My husband was the main inspiration,” the songbird said about the new album. “I’d lost my stream…my husband (John Carey) had the fire.”

Well, it shows he had the fire on the “Melodic” project because the production – by him – is no less than award winning. My favorite cuts on the album include “A Change,” featuring John Carey on vocals, is a great inspirational song of hope – I also love the guitar support he contributes as well; “Share My Life” for its Urban R&B flavor; “Loving You (A Song For John),” an Urban/Smooth Jazz number, where Gina shows her skills at scatting, and “Unbelievable” for its nice Smooth Jazz feel.

Palm Springs resident Gina Carey learned Wednesday her locally produced album, “Melodic,” hit No. 1 on the British soul chart.

So she and her husband, jazz guitarist John Carey, celebrated at Elmer's restaurant on Palm Canyon Drive.

“We're just down-to-earth people,” Gina explained.

Gina, known as Gina Green before marrying Carey last year, has been on the contemporary gospel charts since 1996. She won best female gospel performer at the Las Vegas Black Music Awards in 2006. Her 2008 album, “My Journey,” was her first venture into the urban soul typified by Jill Scott, who has a CD that's No. 16 on the UK soul chart.

Aretha Franklin's latest, “A Woman Falling Out of Love,” is No. 27 on that chart.

Gina, a Chicago native, lived in Rancho Cucamonga before marrying Carey. He's played with the local Smooth Brothers for more than 15 years, most often at Sullivan's Steak House in Palm Desert.

The Careys have their own Palm Springs-based label, GICO Music, that also released John's recent album “New Beginnings.” Both albums debuted on the the UK soul chart July 7, with Gina's landing at No. 23 and John's debuting at No. 29.

Gina has only performed locally at the CD release party for “New Beginnings” last November at Sullivan's. Her first Riverside County performance of songs from “Melodic” will be Oct. 2 when she and John open for Rolls Royce in Riverside. They will tour the UK in 2012 and release a joint CD in January.

Gina celebrates her fifth release with 10 new songs that put you back in the old school sounds of the early 80’s era. This CD includes 4 soulful mid tempo love ballads “Loving You”, “Share My Life”, “Don’t ever Let Me Go” and “Unbelievable”, 2 the fun, funky soulful up tempo tracks” Red Hat” and the old school up tempo disco jam “Without you” and 4 inspirational songs “I Care” ,Life Is More “Don’t You Give Up”, and “A Change” a powerful song about the worlds crises and the hope for the future.

After being in hiatus for almost four years, Gina’s husband was the inspiration behind this phenomenal project. “I wasn’t planning on recording anytime soon. I think I was becoming comfortable with just being a wife and singing backgrounds on my husband’s new CD “New Beginnings”, but my husband continued to encourage me to not give up on my passion to sing. So “Melodic” was born through that experience.”With a new love and a fresh perspective, John & Gina were able to create a masterpiece. Gina was born on October 17 in Chicago, Illinois and spent her formative years growing up in Los Angeles, CA. She now resides in Palm Springs, CA.

“I came up with the name Melodic because people are always telling me that my music is very soothing and smooth so I thought I would name this CD “Melodic” because of the pleasant sounding melodies comprised on this album. I started singing around 8 years and singing has been my passion every since. My musical influences were Gladys Knight, Denise Williams, Minnie Riperton, Billy Holiday, and Stevie Wonder. I grew up listening to real music. Singers in those days made you feel really something. I love the raw vocals and real singing from the soul. That’s the type of music I enjoy writing and performing.”

Throughout Gina’s musical career, she has written and recorded 3 independently released gospel CD’s (In His Time, Changes & Tell Um) and 2 soulful albums, “My Journey” and her latest “Melodic”. Her first CD “In His Time” sold over 10,000 copies nationwide and soared to the top of the European” charts the summer of its release. In 2006 she received a black music award for best gospel performer female in Las Vegas California. Her most recent album entitled “Melodic” was the first and only CD that was written, arranged & composed by Gina. Her multi talented husband and recording artist Urban Soul Guitarist “JOHN CAREY” produced the “Melodic” CD and is also featured on this album as the lead guitarist.

In 2007, Gina auditioned for the Hit TV show *Showtime at the Apollo* and impressed the judges so much that she was invited twice to be a guest on the show filmed in Harlem, New York. In 2008 BET J aired her “True Love” music video on the morning Cup show. Gina has performed all over the United States and has shared the stage with many well established celebrities and will be touring throughout US this year with her husband John Carey.
